What I'm Wishing on Wednesday #1.

What I'm wishing on Wednesday is a new blog feature in which I give you a sneak peek into all the lovely things I'm wishing were in my life! I'm a big fan of shopping (online and off) and as such I have wishlists EVERYWHERE from Amazon to Etsy to Topshop. I figured this would be a good way of keeping track of them all. I'll also helpfully let you know where the item is from, should you want to track it down yourself or add it to your wish list!

I'll be including everything from beauty to books and beyond in this feature, and I'll link up with Waiting on Wednesday too in order to do some much needed book blogger networking (I haven't found any new book blogs to read in ages!) So, if you're taking part in that feature, here's where you can find the next book I can't wait to read.

Oh look, here it is!

The Evening Spider by Emily Arsenault || Release date: January 2016

A gripping blend of psychological suspense and historical true crime, this riveting novel—inspired by a sensational real-life murder from the 1800s—by critically acclaimed author Emily Arsenault delivers a heart-stopping mystery linking two young mothers from different centuries.

Frances Barnett and Abby Bernacki are two haunted young mothers living in the same house in two different centuries.

1885: Frances Barnett is in the Northampton Lunatic Hospital, telling her story to a visitor. She has come to distrust her own memories, and believes that her pregnancy, birth, and early days of motherhood may have impaired her sanity.

During the earliest months of her baby’s life, Frances eagerly followed the famous murder trial of Mary Stannard—that captivated New Englanders with its salacious details and expert forensic testimony. Following—and even attending—this trial, Frances found an escape from the monotony of new motherhood. But as her story unfolds, Frances must admit that her obsession with the details of the murder were not entirely innocent.

Present day: Abby has been adjusting to motherhood smoothly—until recently, when odd sensations and dreams have begun to unsettle her while home alone with her baby. When she starts to question the house’s history, she is given the diary of Frances Barnett, who lived in the house 125 years earlier. Abby finds the diary disturbing, and researches the Barnett family’s history. The more Abby learns, the more she wonders about a negative—possibly supernatural—influence in her house. She becomes convinced that when she sleeps, she leaves her daughter vulnerable—and then vows not to sleep until she can determine the cause of her eerie experiences.

Frances Barnett might not be the only new mother to lose her mind in this house. And like Frances, Abby discovers that by trying to uncover another’s secrets, she risks awakening some of her own.

Wishing on From Around the Web...

Because I always have room in my closet for another little black dress! I'm currently wishing on this one from ASOS.  I love the crochet detailing on the back of this dress and I think I really might treat myself even though I'm not familiar with this label (Y.A.S) and I find that the ASOS sizing charts can be a bit hit and miss at times. The perils of online shopping!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in Pink Quartz.  A mention in a recent Tanya Burr favourites video reminded me that this has been on my wish list for ages. Isn't it pretty?!

And to finish with another book. I'm totally wishing on this upcoming spooky novella from Gillian Flynn. Totally adding this one to my Halloween reading list!

The Grownup by Gillian Flynn || Release date: October 2015.
A young woman is making a living, faking it as a cut-price psychic working at Spiritual Palms (with some illegal soft-core sex work on the side). She makes a decent wage - mostly by telling people what they want to hear. But then she meets Susan Burke. Susan moved to the city one year ago with her husband and 15-year old stepson Miles. They live in a Victorian house called Carterhook Manor, built in 1893. Susan has become convinced that some malevolent spirit is inhabiting their home, and taking possession of the stepson. She has even found trickles of blood on the wall. The young woman doesn't believe in exorcism or the supernatural, but she does see an opportunity to make a lot of money. However when she enters the house for the first time, and meets Miles, she begins to feel it too, as if the very house is watching her, waiting, biding its time....
'The Grownup' which originally appeared as 'What Do You Do?' in George R. R. Martin's Rogues anthology, proves once again that Gillian Flynn is one of the world's most original and skilled voices in fiction.
